Memorial Day 2009 in Seligman, Az. A community effort that included the dedication of a handcrafted plaque, created by Curtiss West. The plaque names the 36 military personnel from Seligman who are currently on active duty. MSG Montoya and MSG Espitia from Camp Navajo Garrison of the Arizona National Guard raised the flag as Louise Wieneke sang The National Anthem. The ceremony included a tribute by Katie Fitzgerald, Superintendent of The Seligman Unified Schools. The Brownies of Troop 1932 presented each veteran with an American Flag ribbon they made. Navajo Code Talker Sam Tsosie ,Sr. was the special guest. His son, Sam Tsosie, Jr., paid tribute to his father and spoke of his family's long involvement in the United States Marine Corps. Seligman's oldest veteran, Joe Delgadillo, was ceremoniously presented the first piece of cake, cut by Ronnie Hawley (Marine). Joe enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942.
